Planting Trees & Giving Back
When I moved home to Ireland, I came back to around forty acres of land at Barnesmore Gap — and one of the first things I started doing was planting trees.
What began as a small project quietly turned into something much bigger. I put in close to five hundred trees, and they're doing really well. Watching them take hold gave me a new appreciation for the land around me, and a real interest in native woodland and why we need more of it across Ireland.
It's something I've grown more passionate about with every season. At KCP we spend our days working with natural materials and making by hand, so it felt right that this became part of the story too. What started at home has gradually grown into something we can now share with the people who support the studio.
The KCP way
Everything we make begins with the earth. Each piece is shaped by hand in our Donegal studio — influenced by landscape, colour, movement and years at the wheel. That connection to nature is in the glazes, the textures and the process itself.
So when the idea of giving something back to the land came up, it didn't feel like a new venture bolted onto the business. It felt like carrying the values already here a little further — and inviting the people who support the studio to be part of it.
Working with Reforest Nation
To bring the idea to life, we partnered with Reforest Nation, whose work supports the planting of native trees across Ireland and helps bring back species that belong naturally in our landscape.
A tree planted today might take years to mature. Given time, it becomes shelter, habitat and biodiversity — part of the landscape for the generations who come after us. We work with the earth every day, so helping native woodland return felt like the right thing to do.
A Tree From Us to You
Giving back matters to us — but we also wanted the people who support KCP to be part of it. So when you spend over €175 online, or €125 when visiting us in the studio, we'll arrange for a native Irish tree to be planted in your honour through our partnership with Reforest Nation.
